Winnie-the-Pooh and the Seven Deadly Sins

MARK YOUR CALENDARS! The Rage of the Stage Players, Pittsburgh’s only dark alternative theatre company, are continuing our 20th anniversary celebration with a FREE dramatized livestream reading of our popular dark comedy, “Winnie-the-Pooh and the Seven Deadly Sins”. Even more exciting, is that the cast is composed of some performers who’re reprising their roles from either of our two previous productions of the play, Ragers both old and new, and four actors from four different states outside of our home in Pennsylvania, two of whom originated roles from two of my other plays in the state premieres of those plays—Eric Parkin, who originated the role of Mr. Harry Lyons in the New York City premiere of “Dorothy in Oz” in 2011, and Lindsay Nicole Steinberg, who originated the role of Alice Liddell in the Virginia premiere of “Alice’s Adventures in ‘Wonderland’” in 2015.

Premiering in 2013, with a revival in 2019, “Winnie-the-Pooh and the Seven Deadly Sins” is the tale of a more jaded sixteen-year-old Christopher Robin, rebelling against his Catholic upbringing and coming to terms with his homosexuality. He soon finds that in his absence from the Hundred Acre Wood, his imaginary friends who dwell within have undergone a series of extreme and disturbing changes: Winnie-the-Pooh (Gluttony) has become a morbidly obese amputee overtaken by diabetes; Piglet (Envy), always dissatisfied with his own life, covets the lives of all who surround him; Rabbit (Greed), avaricious and paranoid, is desperate to protect all that is his; Eeyore’s (Sloth) outlook has gone from bleak to utterly hopeless, which has transformed him into an emo with self-destructive tendencies; Tigger (Lust), never one to respect personal boundaries, has found that pouncing can lead to so much more; Kanga’s household is menaced by her now grown-up son, Roo (Wrath), an Australian kickboxer and violence-junkie; and Owl (Pride), unaware of his problem drinking, continues to maintain an air of smug superiority over his fellow animals, while reminiscing about his “glory days” upon the stage.

Adult themes and strong language. (Prepare to have your childhoods ruined.)
